Why I love Partners In Housing
When my family and I relocated to the Indianapolis area several years ago I was unsure about how to connect to the community. I was fortunate enough to learn about Partners In Housing and their mission through a friend. I was excited to spend time helping members of my new community become self sufficient and also meet people who shared my vision for caring for others.
The opportunity could not have been more perfect for me. I am responsible for a program called Colonial Commons. This program allows residents to work in their communities to maintain or beautify their buildings and earn credit for their time. They use this credit to purchase personal hygeine products and cleaning supplies - items that I take for granted but that these residents would not otherwise be able to purchase. The program relies on product and cash donations and is open twice a month for residents.
The residents are so grateful for the opportunity to purchase the supplies. They continue to bless me with their smiling faces and stories of overcoming adversity. I get to watch them grow and change and take pride in what they have accomplished. I consider myself so lucky to have this opportunity to meet and interact with them and I will continue to support Patners In Housing!
